Okay, so I'm trying something new here. I started making my own Banners, Avatars, and custom in game sprays. I thought I might as well make a thread on it for if you guys would like one as well.
FIRST A FOREMOST!: DO NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR MY CREATION!. If you do, I will so fucking bitchslap you until you die of a bloodied face. Nothing is worse than Plagiarism.
I recommend going to PlanetRenders to find a render (picture/character).
Latest Works: (OLD CRAP IS CRAP. will update when I'm not lazy or people start asking again lol..)
Steam Avatar/Banners: (Set as 184x184)
Requirements:
1 Render. Overall Style (Abstract, vector, etc) and color. Text (Font if need be and any subtext if you want[not recommended tho]).
This is what my Steam Avatar is. This is an example of what an Abstract Flow, 1 Render, Name Text Avatar might look like:
Crappppy stuffZ!
This is what my old one was. This is an example of what a Grunge and Vector, 1 Render, Name Text Avatar might look like: (Yes I know it's 200x200. I messed up on the size but w/e)
Point is: There are MANY different styles on what to choose when creating digital art. PLEASE (I repeat) PLEASE! Provide what type of style(s) or color you might want when requesting an Avatar (this goes with sprays too). I'll create on what you like. I don't want to make something that you don't appreciate.
In Game Sprays (Source Engine Sprays ONLY): (Recommended Sizes:) 128x128 128x256 256x256 [Best Quality ] ...Vice Versa...
Requirements:
1 or No Render (No Render means Text ONLY). Overall Style (Abstract, Vector, Etc.) and color Special Effects (Popout, Transparent, FADE effect) Text (Font. If you have no Render and you want it look like Graffiti, let me know.)
This is my current Spray. This is an example of what an Abstract, Transparent with Popout effect and Shadow. 256x256 w/ Text "chA1nBull3t" (Also has FADE effect ingame. I'll explain what FADE is down below).
(EVEN Crappier stuff)
FADE Effect:
This is what a FADE effect is. When a player reaches a certain proximity of the spray, it fades in. Gives a very appealing touch to sprays too.
Please note that sprays DO TAKE LONGER than making a normal Steam Avatar since they require converting
If you like the one I made you, a Karma +1 would be nice .

Along with Akroyar's Spray:

(The blur looks kinda screwy as a .png file but trust me. It looks perfect ingame when the source engine renders it as a .vtf/.vmf).

Oh I really didn't make much of it at all xD. I just photoeditted it since I couldn't find a render of the BackTrack3 Dragon anywhere so I just used this image:
![[image]](http://www.linuxsoft.cz/img2/backtrack/3.0.B/backtrack_07.jpg)
I only spent like 5mins on it since I was lazy but I liked how it turned out too.
Pretty much what I did was I modded the "yingyang part", added more glow to the eyes, added some grunge effects for lighting and also used a layer clipping (or w/e it's called). I finished it up by adding a small texture overlay and used a black and white gradient map.

Not really a new avatar or anything but I didn't feel like starting a new thread for it.
I just finished up Techie's server's MOTD:
![[image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v647/Athos-San/TechiesMotdcopy-1.png) I think it turned out nicely. <3 gradient maps...<333333

[Sorry, accidently pressed "modify button" instead of quote which is why you have the "chA1nBull3t modified this post" thing]
Things you might wanna fix up:
It's too "boxy". It looks too much like a photograph just stuck on a wall. A good fix to this is to add a border. What would look better is if you add maybe some transparency to add a nice flow to the framing.
Second, use less text (or atleast not as crazy of text). Otherwise it takes people's attention away from the "real picture" at stake. Text is good but it can also ruin a piece of art if it's too distracting. (Unless you WANT it to be such as a table of rules for an MoTD).
Third, black is a nice color, but not so much for a spray. When sprayed on a wall, usually the background texture (the wall), is a contrasting color. Think of cs_office's white walls or DR_Ramesses' yellow/brownish brick walls. It'll make the black parts stand out WAY too much. However, if you want to keep the black in there, a good fix is to use the above hints. Add some transparency or maybe a white (or some other contrasting color too the black) framing/border.
Lastly, ALWAYS use high quality images. Otherwise, they turn out 10x shittier ingame. I recommend .tga files if you don't know how to convert them into vtf's and .vmf's.
Remember, people who don't have good computers will have their settings at either medium or low texture in their graphics settings. Sprays fall under textures so they might look worse for those under a low spec computer (all the more reason to have a higher quality image). Always check whether it looks okay in those low/medium settings too if you tend to have a rig that can play at high.
Just some 'tidbits' .
I would definately recommend using an advance photo editor like PS CS3 to make some nice stuff. However, if you can't afford to buy CS3, there are other nice programs out there that are free (such as GIMP or Paint.net).

As in ingame or in general?
.jpeg's do not support transparency and IMO, suck. .gif's do too. Save them as .png's if you want transparency to show.
If your talking about ingame, make sure you save it as a .tga file. Also, check some tutorials online for how to add BLACK Channels in Photoshop to cancel out any areas you don't want showing when you spray it ingame.
Msg when I'm online if you don't understand.

Chainbullet, you have some nice brushes there.
CS4 is gay though, since they have the new download manager on adobe.com and the file isn't just an .exe.
Mine wont run.

thanks. The guy who made the tech ones is a friend of mine at school. He makes brushes, I use them xD.
But to be honest, I usually try not to use brushes since they can clutter stuff a lot. However, I'm trying to expand my field right now, and get into some tech styles. So far, I got some basic abstract, vector, and grunge concepts down so tech is my next stop .
